Hey guys... I'm McKenzie! A little about me...
I am a Utah native currently living in El Paso, Texas with my sexy military husband and my cat. :)
I am an Aquarius.
I live on candy and sweets and treats and all things delicious.
I'm a dancer turned fine artist.
As a dancer, I grew up expressing myself through the unspoken language of movement. Crossing over into the language of art has been a continuation of my exploration of expression. I find it soooooo liberating to get out my feelings without having to utter a single word.
My curiosity about learning more about expression led me to get my Bachelors in Fine Art in painting and drawing at Utah Valley University. I began my degree as a deer in headlights feeling so lost, thinking I didn't belong, that I wasn't good enough, that I was a fake.. a wannabe. I was just a dancer girl, ya know? That's all I'd ever been. So, going out of my box and becoming something else, even though in my heart I knew it was right, was terrifying! Thanks to my incredible professors and classmates all those insecurities fell away. By the end, I had found myself and the confidence to say "I am an artist".
Now that all my secret feelings are out of the way... lets talk art shall we? hahaha :)
I love movement... energy... emotion... and that is what I focus on as an artist. I want to move souls. I want to feel. I want to make you feel. I want to enrich this world. I want to make my mark. Not too much to ask is it? haha
With this need to 'move', it has led me to focus my work on the idea of water... and it has opened my eyes to the world around me and within me. My current artist mantra comes from Masaru Emoto's book The Hidden Messages in Water (read it... it's life changing!), and it is: “to understand water is to understand the cosmos, the marvels of nature, and life itself.”
I may not ever understand the universe and all its complexities... but it's sure fun to try!
